Visa and Travel

Visas: EAC Nationals do not require a visa to Rwanda. All African nationals can acquire a visa on arrival. Online international visa applications are available www.migration.gov.rw for a fee of US $30. 

Airlines: The following airlines offer passenger flights that land at Kigali International Airport: RwandAir, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, SN Brussels Airlines, KLM, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines

Health: Consult your doctor about Malaria and the Yellow Fever vaccination certificate prior to your visit

Getting Around

Kigali is easy to move around, in fact most major attractions, conference venues and hotels are under a 15-minute drive from the city centre. Kigali city centre where the conference will take place is a 15 minutes drive from the Kigali International Airport. The easiest mode of transport around Kigali is taxicabs, easily identified by the horizontal yellow stripe on the side of the vehicle. Any passenger wishing to book a taxicab may call the following numbers: 9191 (Yego cabs) and 1010 (Move/VW taxi). You can also download the respective ride-hailing apps on Google store and App store below.

What to expect

Climate: Temperate all year round (240 – 270 C). Daytime temperatures are generally warm, so bring lots of light clothing and think about sun protection, including a hat and sunglasses. The evenings tend to be cool, and a light sweater is helpful.

Connectivity: Rwanda has an excellent mobile phone network covering almost the entire country, and international calls can be made easily. MTN and Airtel are Rwanda’s leading telecommunications providers. The country isalso among the top three African countries in terms of internet connectivity, with high speed 4G LTE wireless broadband in Kigali.  

Electricity: Voltage 230V at 50Hz. Most sockets are two-pronged circular electrical connectors (EU) but adaptors are available at most hotels per request.

Foreign Currencies: All major currencies are accepted

Major economic Sectors: Tourism, mining and agriculture.

Plastic Ban:  Plastic bags are not permitted in Rwanda as part of an environmental policy. Plastic bags must be discarded by passengers entering Kigali International Airport (KIA) or any border checkpoint. A cost-effective, ecologically friendly alternative will be provided.
